Sous Chef

Location: New Bedford, MA

Sid Wainer & Son is seeking a Sous Chef to join our team inside our Jansal Valley Provisions store! The Sous Chef is responsible for ensuring that the kitchen is clean and operational, and assists with food styling, photography, and marketing content. The Sous Chef serves as a back up/assistant to our Corporate Chef and will also assist with new recipe development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Educates sales team and Sid Wainer & Son employees on different ways to use ingredients
  •  Ensures consistent food preparation and the highest caliber of food presentation, taking advantage of all opportunities to improve upon both 
  •  Maintains cleanliness of the kitchen and install food safety initiatives with the principles of HACCP and ServSafe in mind
  •  Assists with planning and production for tours, food shows, and special events. 
  • Replenishes samples throughout our Jansal Valley Provisions retail store
  • Greets and assists customers; offers knowledge, tips, and advice
  • Assists with new recipe development
  • Back-up photographer; styles, shoots and edits food photography
  • Assists with creating content for the marketing department
  • Works with cross-functional departments to deliver new information about products and recipes

Food Safety Responsibilities

  •  Works with Quality Assurance Team to ensure specific Good Manufacturing Practices are being followed. 
  •  Employee shall adhere to all company food safety policies, procedures, and trainings. 

Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; bend; reach; and/or kneel. The employee must be able to grasp objects with hands/fingers.The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. 

Work Environment
The kitchen and storage facilities can range from 28 to 90 Fahrenheit.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This position is a full time position averaging 40 hours weekly. Days of work may vary; Saturdays are required.
